Gold Coast Hinterland visitor and lifestyle guide

The Gold Coast Hinterland is one of Queensland's most significant tourist destinations, and is an area of wilderness and rural beauty south of Brisbane and west of the Gold Coast.
Stay in friendly accommodation in any of the rustic country villages and towns, and explore the many attractions of the area.
The Gold Coast Hinterland is not only a major Australian tourist destination, it is also an area where the locals from both the Gold Coast and Brisbane go and recharge their batteries.
Gold Coast Hinterland natural features

National Parks in the area include:
* Lamington National Park
* Springbrook National Park
* Tamborine National Park
* Mount Barney National Park
* Moogerah Peaks National Park
* Main Range National Park
The Gold Coast Hinterland includes the ranges of the Scenic Rim which are sweeping around the river valleys of the Logan, Nerang, Albert and Coomera rivers.
The three main mountain groups in the area are the one in the east (Lamington Plateau, Tamborine and Springbrook), the mountains around Lake Moogerah and the Mount Barney Group.
The Gold Coast Hinterland is the site of Queensland's first National Park, and is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, a World Heritage Area.
Main Gold Coast Hinterland towns

Beaudesert is the main town of the farming district of the Logan River Valley. It is also an important equestrian centre.
Beaudesert was settled very early in Queensland history and the town has several historical buildings.
Beaudesert has a variety of recreational facilities, including sporting grounds, a swimming pool and well-kept parks.
Boonah is the picturesque heart of the Fassifern Valley and the gateway to the Moogerah dam and Moogerah Peaks National Park.
Enjoy swimming or water-skiing on the Moogerah dam, or relax at one of the many eateries and wineries.
Canungra is an old cedar sawmilling town right in the middle of some of the regions main National Parks. It is now one of the main natural eco-tourism destinations in the area, and the area is full of natural wonders, rivers, lookouts, waterfalls and bushwalks.
Canungra is the ideal place to experience country hospitality and a relaxing rural atmosphere.
The town is also an activity centre with hang gliding, paragliding, bushwalking and birdwatching available.
The area is full of natural wonders, waterfalls, rivers, amazing lookouts and beautiful bushwalks.
Logan is the third largest city in Queensland after Brisbane to the north and the Gold Coast to the south east. Logan is a young and thriving city with 500 parks, libraries, local art galleries and a university.
The city is only a quick drive to either the beaches of the Gold Coast or the state capital Brisbane.
Nerang was once a township that characterised the rural hinterland of the Gold Coast. Now you can find major housing development here as it is sandwiched between the beaches of the Gold Coast and the natural wonders of the Hinterland. Aside from enjoying all the mod cons from a modern town, you still can enjoy the charm of the Nerang River and its picnic spots and parklands.
Rathdowney is a quiet rural town near Mount Barney National Park and Lake Maroon, reknowned for its historical significance and rich heritage. Enjoy horse riding or fishing in some of the local reserves.
Tamborine Mountain settlement is probably the most known tourism centre with wineries, acvocado and macadamia plantations, galleries and National Parks with sub-tropical rainforest and waterfalls.
Tamborine Mountain is a great escape of the heat in summer because of its altitude of 560 metres above sealevel.
Romantics will find everything they need in this area: hideaway bed and breakfasts, spas and logfire cabins.
You will also find plenty of galleries and art and crafts, and wineries and restaurants.
Other attractions nearby

Although the Gold Coast Hinterland is mainly a natural paradise, there is plenty to do and see in and around the area that will suit anybody's taste.
Just to the east are Australia's best themeparks including Dreamworld,
Movieworld and Wet and Wild.
A bit further east are the long sandy surf beaches of the Gold Coast, and animal parks like Seaworld, and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
To the north you will find Brisbane, the River City, with world class museums and art galleries.
As you can see, the Gold Coast Hinterland is the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday, right in the middle of Australia's best natural environment but only a daytrip away from the hustle and bustle of the the major centres in South East Queensland.
